Was Dhakwān a Ṣaḥābī’s name?

Question

Is Zakwaan a Ṣaḥābī’s name? If so, can you give a brief description of who he was.

Answer

Dhakwān (ذكوان), commonly spelt as Zakwaan, is the name of several companions of the Prophet ﷺ. One of them was the slave of the Prophet ﷺ. Another is Dhakwān ibn Abd Qays, an Anṣārī companion who was martyred in the battle of Uḥud. There are also others. For details refer to al-Iṣābah (2:338, 355).
