The name Ahmad

The name Ahmad

Question

Can the name Aḥmad be kept? I have heard from somebody that you should not keep that name but I have never heard this, so just clarifying.

Answer

The name Aḥmad can be kept without any hesitation whatsoever. It is one of the names of our beloved Prophet ﷺ and many thousands of scholars and pious people had this name. What you have heard from the person is baseless.

قال الله تعالى: وإذ قال عيسى ابن مريم يا بني إسرائيل إني رسول الله إليكم مصدقا لما بين يدي من التوراة ومبشرا برسول يأتي من بعدي اسمه أحمد. وعن جبير من مطعم رفعه: إن لي أسماء، أنا محمد، وأنا أحمد، وأنا الماحي الذي يمحو الله بي الكفر، وأنا الحاشر الذي يحشر الناس على قدمي، وأنا العاقب، رواه البخاري (٤٨٩٦). وعن جابر رفعه: سموا باسمي ولا تكتنوا بكنيتي، رواه البخاري (٦١٨٧)۔
