Is Prime Drink Halal?
Question
Is Prime Drink Ḥarām? Their website states that they are not Halal. However, all the ingredients appear to be Halal and their website states that it is suitable for vegetarians and vegans and does not contain any alcohol. The ingredients are: coconut water, electrolytes, vitamin B, BCAAs (Branched-chain amino acids) and many antioxidants.

Answer
The ingredients of the Prime Hydration drink mentioned above are not Ḥarām.
As far as their website is concerned, initially it was written that the drink is not Halal, i.e., not certified as Halal. This is understood from the latest wording on the website which states the following, “While Prime products do not hold a formal Halal Certification; our products do not constitute any ingredients or manufacturing processes that would require such certification.”
قال محمد في الأصل (٧/٣٢٦): شرب الخمر وأكل الميتة لم يحرم إلا بالنهي عنهما، فإذا جاءت الضرورة ذهب النهي، فصار بمنزلة ما لم ينه عنه، فإذا صار بمنزلة ما لم ينه عنه صار كغيره من الأطعمة التي لم ينه عن أكلها، انتهى. قال السرخسي في المبسوط (٢٤/٧٧) وحكاه السغناقي في الكافي شرح البزدوي (٣/١٤٠٦): يستدل به على أنه كان من مذهبه أن الأصل في الأشياء الإباحة، وأن الحرمة بالنهي عنها شرعا، انتهى. وقال في أصوله (٢/٢٠): الموجب للإباحة يبقى ما كان على ما كان على طريقة بعض مشايخنا، لكون الإباحة أصلا في الأشياء، كما أشار إليه محمد في كتاب الإكراه، انتهى. وقال العيني في البناية (١٢/٧٠): والأصل في الأشياء الإباحة، انتهى. قال ابن أمير حاج في التقرير والتحبير (٢/٩٩): وهو قول معتزلة البصرة وكثير من الشافعية وأكثر الحنفية لا سيما العراقيين، انتهى. وراجع الأشباه والنظائر لابن نجيم (ص ٥٦ و ٩٣)۔
