Are Strepsils Halal?
Question
Strepsils contain Dichlorobenzyl alcohol. Are they Halal?

Answer
Strepsils are Halal. Dichlorobenzyl alcohol is a mild antiseptic that helps kill bacteria associated with sore throats and throat infections. It is not the alcohol found in beverages. It should be noted that any organic compound that carries at least one hydroxyl functional group (−OH) bound to a saturated carbon atom is an alcohol. Thus, there are hundreds of alcohols and not all fall within the prohibited Khamr.
قال عمر: أما بعد، أيها الناس إنه نزل تحريم الخمر، وهي من خمسة من العنب والتمر والعسل والحنطة والشعير، والخمر ما خامر العقل، رواه البخاري (٤١٦٩). وقال النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم: كل مسكر حرام، رواه البخاري (٤٣٤٣ و ٦١٢٤ و ٧١٧٢). وروی مسلم (۱۹۸٥) عن أبي هريرة مرفوعا: الخمر من هاتين الشجرتين النخلة والعنبة۔
