Isḥāq or Isaac
Question
A Muslim wants to name his son Isaac and suggests this is a name of a Prophet. What is your advice regarding this?
بسم الله الرحمن الرحیم
Answer
Isaac is the anglicised version of the Hebrew word Yishaq which refers to Prophet Isḥāq (peace be upon him). As a Muslim, the parent should name the child Ishaq (Isḥāq) as this is how it is mentioned in the Qurʾān and also to preserve his Muslim identity.
