Print on demand business
Question
I would like to know if print on demand business is permissible and its income is Halal?

Answer
The print on demand business is permissible and the income from it is Halal as long as the all specifications and timescales of the printing and delivery and payment terms are clearly agreed, and the printed products enter into the possession of the seller. This possession can by physical (ḥaqīqī) and can also be constructive (ḥukmī) for example by the seller appointing the courier company.
قال محمد في الأصل (٢/٣٧٥): إذا استصنع الرجل عند الرجل عند الرجل خفين أو قلنسوة أو تورا أو كوزا أو قمقما أو آنية من آنية النحاس واشترط من ذلك صناعة معروفة ولم يضرب لذلك أجلا فهو بالخيار إذا فرغ الرجل من ذلك، لأنه اشترى ما لم ير، فإن شاء الذي استصنعه أخذه، وإن شاء تركه. فإن ضرب له أجلا وكانت تلك الصناعة معروفة واشترط منها وزنا معروفا من النحاس، فهو بمنزلة السلم وهو جائز، ليس له خيار في قول أبي حنيفة، وإن كانت مجهولة فهو فاسد لا يجوز، قال أبو يوسف ومحمد: هو جائز وصاحبه بالخيار إذا رآه إن شاء أخذه وإن شاء تركه، ولا يكون بمنزلة السلم، انتهى. وراجع فيه باب الاستصناع (٣/٤٣٤). وراجع فقه البيوع لمحمد تقي العثماني (٢/١١٦٣ – ١١٦٧) لمسائل الاستصناع، وجوابنا في الدروب شيبنج۔
