Did Abū Ṭālib pass away in the state of belief?
Question
Is there any evidence that Abu Ṭālib passed away in the state of belief?
بسم الله الرحمن الرحیم
Answer
There is no evidence that the uncle of our beloved Prophet Muḥammad ﷺ, Abū Ṭālib, passed away as a Muslim. In fact, the opposite is affirmed by many ḥadīths and the exegesis of certain verses of the Qurʾān. The Ahl al-Sunnah wa al-Jamāʿah are united upon this. The disagreement of the Rawāfiḍ and a very small group of Sunnī scholars will not affect the general consensus in this regard. As Abū Ṭālib was an ardent supporter of the Prophet ﷺ, one should exercise caution and avoid any derogatory comments.
