Ḥayḍ (menstruation) duration query
Question
A few months ago, my daughter’s monthly bleeding began, and she bled for 12 days. Her bleeding is regular every month at the same time for 11-12 days. Will she wait until her bleeding finishes and thereafter resume performing Ṣalāh? Please advise.

Answer
The maximum duration of Ḥayḍ (menstruation) is ten days. Therefore, she will not perform Ṣalāh during the first ten days of bleeding each month. After the ten days, she will perform Ghusl and start performing Ṣalāh. The bleeding beyond the ten days will be regarded as Istiḥāḍah (irregular bleeding). She will thus perform ablution for each Ṣalāh time during Istiḥāḍah and perform Ṣalāh.
قال محمد في الأصل (٢/٥): وأقل ما يكون الحيض ثلاثة أيام ولياليها، لا ينقص من ذلك شيئا، وأكثر الحيض عشرة أيام ولياليها، لا يزيد على ذلك شيئا. وقال: ألا ترى أن الدم لو زاد على عشرة أيام ولياليها ساعة كانت تلك الساعة استحاضة. وقال: وإذا بلغت المرأة مبلغ النساء ولم تحض فرأت الدم أول ما رأته فمد بها الدم ثلاثة أشهر فإن أبا حنيفة قال في ذلك: حيضها من أول ما رأت الدم عشرة أيام، فإذا مضت اغتسلت وتوضأت لكل وقت صلاة، وصلت عشرين يوما. وقال (٢/٨): وأما دم الاستحاضة فحكمه كحكم دم الرعاف، تتوضأ منه لوقت كل صلاة، وتصلي ويأتيها زوجها وتصوم، وهي فيه بمنزلة الطاهرة، انتهى. وقال القدوري في مختصره (ص ١٩): وأكثر الحيض عشرة أيام ولياليها، وما زاد على ذلك فهو استحاضة، انتهى۔
