Management of Islamic Organisation
Question
At our recent AGM, the members nominated an eleven-member Shūrā (executive committee) to manage the day to day affairs of the Masjid. They include three members who are scholars and also siblings. From an Islamic perspective, is there anything wrong with having siblings on the executive committee?
بسم الله الرحمن الرحیم
Answer
Muslim organisations should be run by competent individuals who are God-fearing and possess Islamic knowledge. If such people happen to include siblings who have been nominated by the people, there is nothing wrong with this. It is also advised to appoint an Amīr for the period of your appointment or appoint on an annual or bi-annual basis.
