Equality in Masjid services
Question
What is the Islamic position on Masjids who refuse their services such as burial or education classes to a particular ethnic group or charge them more than others?

Answer
This is against Islamic teachings. The services provided by a Masjid should be universally and equally accessible for all Muslims. Delegating the responsibility of the running of a Masjid to like-minded individuals is a different matter to ensure that it runs smoothly and effectively. However, a Masjid, and for that matter any organisation, should not refuse its services to anyone or discriminate in its provision. The Masjid is the house of Allah and is Waqf, a perpetual endowment, for all members of the community. The Masjid does not belong to a particular ethnic group or people from a particular region. Therefore, its services must be accessible to all at the same cost.
قال الله تعالى: وأن المساجد لله. وقال الله تعالى: يا أيها الناس، إنا خلقناكم من ذكر وأنثى وجعلناكم شعوبا وقبائل لتعارفوا، إن أكرمكم عند الله أتقاكم. وقال الله تعالى: إنما المؤمنون إخوة. وعن أبي هريرة عن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم قال: لينتهين أقوام يفتخرون بآبائهم الذين ماتوا إنما هم فحم جهنم، أو ليكونن أهون على الله من الجعل الذي يدهده الخراء بأنفه، إن الله أذهب عنكم عبية الجاهلية وفخرها بالآباء، إنما هو مؤمن تقي وفاجر شقي، الناس كلهم بنو آدم وآدم خلق من تراب. رواه الترمذي (٣٩٥٥) وحسنه، وراجع فيه (٣٢٧٠). وعن النعمان بن بشير قال قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: مثل المؤمنين في توادهم وتراحمهم وتعاطفهم مثل الجسد، إذا اشتكى منه عضو تداعى له سائر الجسد بالسهر والحمى. رواه مسلم (٢٥٨٦)۔
